As most of you may know, IDNF's first event of the new year was held at the Void Club owned by the artistic couple, Allison Culbertson and Eric Savage, and located in the Silicon Alley of Soho. The Void Club is unique in its multimedia setting with 7 TV monitors and one big screen hanging high on the wall used to project computer and video images.IDNF members and invited guests gathered at the Void Club on January 19 to celebrate the new year and the rapidly growing web design industry. Highly acclaimed web designers were present to introduce their front-line innovations and creations. We were also delighted to see many new and inspiring encounters as well as some old acquaintances unexpectedly meeting once again.
The night of informative and impressive web page presentations started off with Frogdesign NY Office Director and former Smart Design's Vice President, Tucker Viemeister's welcoming speech.
The first presenter, One Club Gallery's Kevin Swanpowel showed traditional and solid PR graphics selected from One Club Gallery's Digital Competition Prize Winners. Antenna Design's Masamichi Udagawa and Sigi Moeslinger showed their web pages and online new year's card. Matt Owens from Volume One enthusiastically presented the Codexseries which is a collection of digital narratives that he collaborated with Tree Axis, Orangeflux, and San Fransifsco's Josh Ulm. Yoshi Sodeoka introduced to us his award winning online magazine Word as well as his company, Codename 404's web site. Last, but not least, Eric Rosevear from E13 presented his highly unique and artistic web site.
Because this was our first attempt at holding such an event involving the latest digital techniques, there were some unavoidable equipment trouble. However, the presenters works were impressive enough to keep the show going. We received many thank yous via e-mail, and many attendees informed us that they enjoyed checking out all the web sites after the event. We are planning to hold such events periodically in the near future.
