The Seki Cut Competition deadline for entries was January 31st. On February 25th, Gallery 91 was closed for business... while inside the IDNF panel of internationally reknown judges spent the day devoted to their assignment.
Foamcore boards depicting creative and innovative designs of cutting utensils and tools lined the walls of the gallery. The imaginations of our entrants yielded this sort of fruit: a rather unconventional nose hair trimmer, a pizza slicer, various envelope openers, an innovative pencil sharpener, a paper cutting bubble, paper detailers, cigar cutter, scissors for children, nail clippers for the elderly, and can openers for the one-handed.
Despite the prohibitive costs involved and our "Models are optional and will not be returned" warning, we received a surprising number of actual size replicas. No entry fee to this competition was charged, but it is obvious that our entrants have invested a good deal of money, and in light of that fact we are making every possible effort to return all submitted models.
At some point within the next few days, all winners will be notified. And duly celebrated at our "Cutting Edge" Event to be held Thursday, April 10. Keep checking the IDNF website for more detailed information to come on this event.
The winners will be notified by mail, email, fax or phone and will be required to submit an affidavit of eligibility and release including publicity rights to use the name and picture of the winner without compensation. Responses must be sent by fax/e-mail/phone within 4 days of notification. Should the winners not accept or fulfill the requirement of eligibility, alternate winners will be selected.
